Below you will find the schedule for a typical morning at the school. Please note all times are approximate.
9:00 – 9:15 am
Children arrive at school and are encouraged to find their own cubby and undress without help.
9:00 – 10:00 am
Children are encouraged to explore all aspects of the school at their own pace. All areas are open and there is an art or craft for them to participate in. Our paint easels are also always open.
10:00 – 10:05 am
Everyone is encouraged to help put away toys and tidy up.
10:05 – 10:25 am
The group comes together to enjoy stories, songs, games, discussion, dance and many spontaneous events. This is a time for everyone to come together to share ideas and for the children to learn to be responsive group members. During this time, all children are encouraged to stay in the circle area for supervision purposes but are welcome to just listen.
10:25 – 10:30 am
All the children wash their hands before snack time.
10:30 – 10:45 am
The snack (which is provided by a volunteer parent) is served once all the children are seated. Children can pour their own water from manageable pitchers (and mop up any spills!) and are encouraged to say “please” and “thank you”. The children also empty, wash and rinse their own plates and cups before returning them to their cubby.
10:45 – 11:00 am
This time is set aside for the children who are toilet trained to take turns using the washroom. They are of course encouraged to go when needed throughout the morning. The diaper routine also happens at this time or as needed.
Dressing for Outdoors
10:50 – 11:10 am,
depending on the season
We go outside everyday, weather permitting. The children are taught dressing strategies to encourage them to dress themselves.
11:00 – 11:30 am
The children play outside in our enclosed, grass filled backyard complete with a hill, sandbox and a variety of toys such as tricycles, riding toys, trucks, shovels, buckets, etc.
Parents pick up their child in the backyard. Children are encouraged to help pick up the toys and say goodbye to the teachers before leaving.
